QUESTION:
Why is the anti- science propaganda machine so successful?
Anti-evolution, anti-global warming, anti-astronomy, anti-genetics, anti-medicine, etc.: all are part of the anti-science movement. Whether it is kooky homeopathic remedies or biology-deniers in our schools, it seems as though America has been overrun by a dark-ages mentality. Is this due to some weakness in our culture, to the big money media, poor quality public schools, endemic religious fanaticism or all of the above?-
ANSWER:
Because deep down humans are stupid, scared little creatures who view new things as a possible threat.Add to that the tendency of people to lose all ability for rational thought whenever someone says the word "values" and you have a recipe for stagnation.
People are afraid of new things but no reason to fight it..then someone comes along and says "God doesn't like..." or "...is against our family values" and people are instantly hypnotized to think "Yeah this is wrong I am against this" without even trying to learn or understand the issues.
Just look at the successful politicians..they prey on the "values" vote saying they stand for values, and when you check these guys out they are on their 7th spouse and have 3 drug scandals in their record but people still vote for the "values" politician.

QUESTION:
I have noticed my cheeks and jawline are starting to get floppy.?
My skin feels soft but very floppy. I feel like i am getting fat under my neck also. My skin felt nice and plump until xmas. I drink at least 2 litres of water every day and eat fruit and veg and meat and fish. I have been on a diet and lost nearly a stone, but only at a steady pace of 2 pounds a week. I can actally feel my jaw bone and the skin feels very thin but flabby on my face. I have been using anti-aging creams like Loreal revitalift and Boots uplifting range. I cleanse and tone twice a day and moisturise twice a day. Have I caused my skin to overload and sag or is this normal for a 41yr old. I would like to know if there is anything that actually works for this area. I do not want to resort to surgery as I am petrified. I was thinking of maybe one of those facial toning machines, but dont want to waste money if they dont really make a difference. I dont know if general exercise helps. Getting really obsessed with looking at this floppy skin. Please help. Genuine only.-

QUESTION:
Is this piece of anti Republican propaganda right wing...?
or left wing ?http://elections.harpweek.com/1860/cartoon-1860-medium.asp?UniqueID=5&Year=1860
Abraham Lincoln's supporters are portrayed as radicals and eccentrics of various stripes. The satire is loosely based on an anti-Fremont cartoon from the previous presidential race, "The Great Republican Reform Party" (no. 1856-22), also issued by Nathaniel Currier.
Here Lincoln, sitting astride a wooden rail borne by Horace Greeley, leads his followers toward a lunatic asylum. Greeley instructs him, "Hold on to me Abe, and we'll go in here by the unanimous consent of the people." Lincoln exhorts his followers, "Now my friends I'm almost in, and the millennium is going to begin, so ask what you will and it shall be granted."
At the head of the group is a bearded man, arm-in-arm with a woman and a Mormon. He claims to "represent the free love element, and expect to have free license to carry out its principles." The woman looks at Lincoln, saying "Oh! what a beautiful man he is, I feel a {grave}passionate attraction' every time I see his lovely face." The Mormon adds, "I want religion abolished and the book of Mormon made the standard of morality."
They are followed by a dandified free black, who announces, "{grave}De white man hab no rights dat cullud pussons am bound to spect' I want dat understood." Behind him an aging suffragette says, "I want womans rights enforced, and man reduced in subjection to her authority." Next a ragged socialist or Fourierist, holding a liquor bottle, asserts, "I want everybody to have a share of everybody elses property."
At the end of the group are three hooligans, one demanding "a hotel established by government, where people that aint inclined to work, can board free of expense, and be found in rum and tobacco." The second, a thief, wants "the right to examine every other citizen's pockets without interruption by Policemen." The last, an Irish street tough, says, "I want all the stations houses burned up, and the M.P.s killed, so that the bohoys can run with the machine and have a muss when they please."

QUESTION:
Help me with my abortion essay please?
No i don't know's please I am against abortions and am writing and essay on it and I have run out of things to write please help me...this is due tomorrow!!! I already have...
For several centuries, in many different cultures, there is a history of women helping each other perform abortions. Until the late 1800s, women healers in Western Europe and the U.S. provided abortions and trained other women to do them, without legal prohibitions. In 1803, Britain first passed anti-abortion laws, which then became very strict throughout the century. The U.S. followed as individual states began to prohibit abortion. By 1880, most abortions were illegal in the U.S., except those necessary to save the life of the woman.
The pro-abortion crowd will argue that a fetus is not a person but a fertilized egg has all the Deoxyribonucleic Acid markers of a unique human being. If it is a unique individual, it is a person and which is entitled protection under the Constitution. We as a society are not allowed to take a persons life, liberty or property without due process. Two people hoping to have a child consider it a baby and even start planning for the baby the moment it comes back positive but, two people that don’t want the child they conceived don’t consider it a human even after three months into the pregnancy.
The pro-abortion side is basically saying that being conceived is a crime punishable by death. Abortion is capital punishment where the only crime committed is being conceived. This is not justified for any human beings that are of any age then why does it automatically become just if it is an innocent child that hasn’t even had the chance to walk on it’s own yet? Some people say that a mother is a life support system and a fetus is not a person until viable. The anti-abortion side argues back with “then artificial kidney machines, hearts and breathing apparatus should not be used to aid those recovering from accidents or illnesses.” Saying mainly that you shouldn’t take away an innocent child’s only chance of life, in a way that is also dangerous to your own.
The methods chosen by doctors are extremely dangerous and unsanitary. Suction Aspiration, The suction machine is used to pull the fetus into parts small enough to pass out of your body through the suction tube. Dilation and Curettage, this method of abortion is done with a loop-shaped knife which is used to scrape the wall of your uterus, cutting the fetus into smaller parts and pulling them out of your body through the cervix. RU 486, which is a pill with severe side effects. These are just a few of the methods used in an abortion.

ANSWER:
Here’s my opinion!Dear Alice,
I have just found out that I am one week pregnant. My boyfriend and I both agree that it is not the time for this. We do not have the money for an abortion. Is there any way to safely force a miscarriage?Dear Reader,
Trained, qualified health care providers safely terminate pregnancies since there is no safe way to induce (or force) a miscarriage on your own. Before abortion was legalized in the United States as a choice for women in 1973, millions of women tried "do-it- yourself" methods or visited "back-alley doctors" to end unwanted pregnancies. Thousands died, and many more were permanently injured.
It's important not to let money stand in the way of your health care. Abortion costs vary depending on the setting — clinics, such as Planned Parenthood, tend to be less expensive (some even have sliding scale fees); private hospitals and doctor's offices usually are more expensive. If you are at a university, funds for this type of procedure may also be available. Many private health insurance plans pay for some or all of the expenses. Medicaid covers the cost of abortion in some, but not all, states. The National Network of Abortion Funds provides a listing of community abortion funds throughout the U.S. These funds provide financial aid to help low income women obtain an abortion. Their toll-free hotline is 1.800.772.9100.
First trimester abortions (abortions up to the thirteenth week of pregnancy) typically cost between 0 - 400. Since you are about one week along in your pregnancy, you may also have a choice between a medical/chemical abortion using Mifepristone (formerly known as RU-486) and a surgical abortion. A health care provider will be able to give you additional info (or you can check on your own). As the pregnancy progresses, pregnancy terminations become more expensive and providers more difficult to find, as risks and complications from the procedure also increase.
Pregnant and Undecided in Alice's Sexual Health archive explains how abortions are performed and also gives other related info and options. You can get information on crisis pregnancy counseling in your area through Planned Parenthood at 1.800.230.PLAN (-7526).
Fortunately, women in the U.S. today, even those with low income, have various options and resources available to them.
http://www.goaskalice.columbia.edu/1984.htmlDear Alice,
I am nineteen-years-old. I just found out that I'm pregnant. I have been with the guy for two years and in college for one year. We are not financially stable. We have given it a lot of thought, but still do not know what to do. I have looked at the pros and cons and still I'm not sure. I have three little sisters and know that raising children is a hard job. Throughout this time I have leaned more toward the abortion, but don't feel like I know enough about it. Can you please HELP?
Thanks,
UndecidedDear Undecided,
Alice is pleased that you're looking for the information you need to make your decision because this decision has a time limit. If you do not reach one within a certain amount of time, it will be made for you.
Clinically, abortion is a safe and simple procedure when carried out legally by licensed and specially trained doctors and some nurse practitioners with sterile and proper instruments. If you decide to have an abortion, it is best to do so within the first trimester (first three months) — this is when an abortion is safer, easier, and less expensive. You may have a hard time finding someone to perform a second trimester abortion; and, third trimester abortions are only performed when your life is seriously threatened by the pregnancy, or if you need to be treated for a life-threatening disease with a medication that would be toxic to the pregnancy.
Most surgical abortions take anywhere from five to fifteen minutes. The most common technique, aspiration, involves inserting a small tube, that is attached to a source of gentle suction, which draws the pregnancy tissue out from the uterus through the cervix. You can choose local (you're awake) or general anesthesia. This type of abortion is done during the first three months. Second trimester abortions usually involve an injection of medication to help trigger the abortion.
As far as how you will handle an abortion emotionally, some women feel relief, sadness, anger, upset, guilt, nothing at all, or all of the above. You may or may not experience unexpected emotions afterwards. If you choose to have an abortion, let a close friend or two, besides your boyfriend, know about it. Having people around who care and who can support you in your decision will help.
Ultimately, the decision is yours to make. You've got several choices to consider: you can terminate the pregnancy either surgically or medically (whichever is recommended as appropriate for you); or, you can carry the pregnancy to full-term, either keeping the baby or perhaps arranging for the baby to be adopted. Carefully think about which option will be best for you and your boyfriend. It may be a complicated decision to make, as family, religious, cultural, and future life concerns are so often influential. Speak with a health care provider or ask your student health service if you need more help making your decision. Another resource that can help you make a decision is Planned Parenthood because they offer a wide-range of women's health care and information:
Planned Parenthood
1.800.230.PLAN (-7526)
You can also read RU-486 (Mifepristone) in Alice's Sexual Health archive for more information about this medical form of abortion.
Alice believes that whatever you decide, know and remember that you will be making the best choice for yourself at this point in your life.
